Top 10 largest industrial centers of Russia in 2013

Based on municipal statistics and corporate reporting, the Urbanika Planning Institute compiles a rating of cities of the Russian Federation for the development of industrial infrastructure.

In total, the list includes 250 settlements. We represent Top 10 largest industrial centers in Russiaranked by production volume.

10. Nogliki (production volume - 346.1 billion rubles.)

A small city located in the Sakhalin Region overtook Chelyabinsk, which ranked the top ten in last year’s ranking. The most important city-forming enterprise of Noglikov is NGDU Katanglineftegaz. Important for the city are enterprises of forestry, fishing and construction industries.

9. Nizhnekamsk (350.1 billion rubles)

This city is the largest Russian center for the petrochemical industry; it accounts for 23% of Tatarstan's industrial output. Enterprises of the construction industry and food industry are also of great importance.

8. Novy Urengoy (383.4 billion rubles)

The city-forming in the region were two subsidiaries of Gazprom - Gazprom dobycha Yamburg and Gazprom dobycha Urengoy. The enterprises located in Novy Urengoy account for more than half of the gas produced in the Russian Federation.

7. Ufa (420.2 billion rubles)

The main industries represented in Ufa are oil refining, chemistry and mechanical engineering. The city has more than two hundred medium and large enterprises, including Bashneft, Gazprom Transgaz Ufa, and GlavBashStroy.

6. Perm (495.3 billion rubles)

The basis of the city’s economy is heavy industry. Of great importance are the electric power industry, oil and gas processing, chemistry and petrochemistry, mechanical engineering, woodworking, printing, and also the food industry

5. Omsk (528.1 billion rubles)

The main industries represented in the economy of Omsk are food, petrochemical, rubber and plastic products, electrical equipment, aerospace engineering.

4. Nizhnevartovsk (611.1 billion rubles.)

The basis of the city’s economy is the oil and gas complex. Such enterprises as Samotlorneftegaz, Rosneft-Nizhnevartovsk, Sibur Tyumen Gas are represented in Nizhnevartovsk. There are many foreign companies in the region - National Oilwell Varco, Baker Hughes, Trican Well Service.

3. Surgut (1215.1 billion rubles)

One of the largest Russian ports is closely linked to oil and natural gas production. Surgutneftegas, Gazprom transgaz Surgut, and Gazprom Pererabotka are based in the city. The energy industry is represented by the Tyumenenergo branch.

2. Moscow (2241.1 billion rubles.)

The capital is the center of engineering, light, chemical and printing industries. However, the process of transferring large enterprises from the metropolis to the region and other regions leads to the fact that Moscow no longer occupies the first line in the ten largest industrial centers.

1. St. Petersburg (2336 billion rubles.)

The basis of the economy of the Northern capital is more than seven hundred enterprises that represent such industries as shipbuilding, petrochemicals, food processing, engineering, printing, non-ferrous metallurgy, food processing.
